Julia's daffodils
Where did March go? Here I am on the cusp on April....April?!! It's been a flower filled month as my sister has decided to chase her dream of running a cut flower business. We've been looking at all sorts of websites for ideas and inspirations for this years blooms as well as sheds and cold frames. It's all very exciting as gardening and flowers are her thing.
I firmly believe we all have a medium, wood or wool or flowers, something our talents really shine through in. It may take you a time to find yours, or it will find you.
I'm always more than happy to have bouquets of flowers from her. Here are some from last year...beautiful!
So she has put in some new raised beds to grow all these beauty's and there will soon be her 'she-shed' cum potting, cum cutting room arriving. A new project is always exciting and I'm glad to be involved especially as she has helped me so much with mine.
Mad march hares were leaping out from the shop to ship all over the world. I had a first sale to Dubai so that was a new pin in the map.
I also completed my brief of a cowl that Megan could hide her face in...no idea why.The yarn is
a king cole riot DK from The Wool Stop in Thornbury chosen as the purple matched her hair!
Finished hat.
I had a custom request for a nautical theme huge set of markers for a lady who lives on a boat and is mad on the ocean. Apparently she was very pleased with her wide selection of sea motif charms and shells. I like being given these little challenges to complete for custom orders. I can honestly spend hours looking at beads and charms and often end up purchasing items I didn't have in mind at the start!
Three things I never knew I needed this month. I actually went into the shop to buy the owl cushion that was beautifully displayed in their window (with several similar but different owl companions) and told them off, for having lovely but unnecessary things for sale that unwary shoppers felt compelled to purchase. They told me I needed stronger will power! The scarf and the bowl were in the charity shop and the bowl is used every day as a picking bowl for gathering up the days stitch markers orders and I've worn the scarf most days too. The owl cushion has just kept me company and occasionally been snuggled up to by a cat.
I had a desire to design a shawl pattern and this was my first sampler test knit. I chose colours I wasn't particularly fond of out of the stash and they took on a scheme of their own and it pulled together. I have completed a full size shawl now to perfect the design and I am currently working on the second to get the tech right in the pattern....if I can understand my notes. I think I shall probably knit another afterwards just to make sure.....anyone want to buy a shawl?
Laika was back up to full fitness after her injury, our patch work dog. Here they both are hoping for a squirrel so they can run about madly, whimpering with excitement.
The woods are slowly starting to change. The catkins and daffodils are out in one area and the sticky buds look fit to burst too. The hawthorn has been the first to come out in leaf and the blackthorn is out in flower. The birds are busy nesting and sound full of life each morning...aaah Spring!!!
I had a few days off making markers over Easter and worked on the shawl. It felt naughty but also nice, once I let myself relax to just enjoy a really slow few days. It is hard to switch off when you work from home as I feel 'downtime' is wasted time. That's why I like to knit during that time as I still feel I'm being productive.
Easter flowers
Primroses
Easter Monday we took the dogs down to one of my favourite walks along the Severn at Purton. These old boats were scuppered here to prevent the river eroding the bank of the Gloucester & Sharpness canal.
View towards Sharpness.
I'll finish with some of the crafty cat nonsense captured this month...it was hard to choose!
I love your shawl pattern! I really like 'sampler' projects, with their variety of stitches. Your knitted hats are so pretty too. What pattern do you use? I love the way it looks from the top :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you said that about sampler shawls as I was going to ask if you would kindly test my shawl when the pattern is ready seeing as you're a shawl wizard. Free stitch markers as compensation! Minor stitch count issues at present..grr.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog...think you're the only one!
Nope, your reader's list has grown by one human, two cats indoors and at least 14 feral cats that eat, drink, and snooze on my patio.
ReplyDeleteSome choose to sleep in my planter's and I have little hope for the seeds I planted there, others bury themselves in blankets I have on my glider, two
ReplyDeleteidentical looking cats sleep together on a pillow on the glider. They are the most raggedy looking cats I've seen. They are grey and white, sporting
ReplyDeleteboth short and long hair, they look a tangled mess but are so cute, twins, they sleep yin and yang cuddled together. I have gingers, calicos,

ReplyDeletethat separate them with splashes of white, a black nose, a pink nose and a white nose is all that is different. I feed them under the glider

ReplyDeleteit, he has one huge beautiful green eye but lost an eye last year to glaucoma, now my funny little pirate cat. My other cat Sypsy, I rescued from the humane society, she is cozy only with me but when others visit her curiosity has her creeping closer and closer. She is only three and keeps Buddy young. They play, " chase me, chase me" all through the house leaping over tables and chairs, skidding across wood floors and surfing on rugs across the room. Everyday, Buddy " kills" one of his bird toys and brings it to me yowling that loud round sound around that bird toy in his mouth, he drops it at my feet, so proud of his courage and prowess as a great hunter. Of course he must receive a reward treat in exchange for his gift, Sypsy gets an equal treat just for encouraging him. They are both lap kitties but when I am working on a project they sprawl in baskets, my bed and Sypsy has blanket tents in every room where she may hide and safely watch what is happening, or nap safely out of sight. They are my best of friends, unconditional love is love regardless of where it comes from. My art is still evolving,, sewing, painting, bead work, trims and lace both material and leather. Fabrics and jewels, crystals and ribbons. A plethora of beautiful, stimulating things slowly coming together. Two things, I want to use some of your works in my pieces if you don't mind. Second, I have a skein of beautiful light purple or lilac in color yarn, I bought it because I thought it beautiful, may I send it to you and have you make whatever you wish. My daughter in law was going to make something for me as she knits and crochets, but she has lost interest. So now it sits staring at me, wishing to be brought to life as something beautiful, as something beautifully knitted or crocheted. A dream I cannot fulfill as I do neither. I read your blog outloud and I swear the yarn inched it's way out of the basket intrigued by the life you live from your walks, your animals and your creative spirit. I believe quite vehemently, this yarn has chosen for you just as I have chosen some of your pieces to be used in my work. So, I am asking for my yarn, may she come to you? Odd I know, but thankfully I live an odd life so for me it's quite normal.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your blog, you are a quiet voice of gentle beauty and a poignant sharing of your life. In a somewhat cluttered mind like mine, your voice, brought peace and invigorating creative thoughts on my part. So please keep sharing, your walks, your photos, your animals and of course you and you creativity and the gentle beauty of fresh flowers and your sisters dreams. I have two sisters and we too, share our dreams.
In Joy,Lana also known as TexasCyllk as I was born in Texas and after being away for 17 years, I am finally home again. Living by myself for the first time in 31 years. I now have the luxury of choosing how to spend my time. I spent 31 years as my son's caregiver. He has Cystic Fibrosis but after a double lung transplant three years ago he is finally Living a full life. We lived in California during this time and he also met a young lady, fell in love and got married. After much heart searching I decided to leave California and come home to spend time with my 88 year old mother, my brother, my sister's and other family. And after 31 years with Eli as my focus, choosing my life. Choosing to reinvent myself, my birthday was April 8, and my birthday wish was just to create; me, jewelry, clothes, wind chimes, ...whatever I want to do, a tremendous luxury I have now been blessed with. And your cat pieces, beadwork and craftsmanship have me wishing I could intern with you, apprentice to your works and craftsmanship, but I will have to settle for slowly adding your collection to mine as finances allow. Thank you so much for inspiring me today, an unexpected gift I will treasure. I hope your days are filled with unexpected treasures, and peaceful soul restoring moments. In Joy, Lana, TexasCyllk

Thank you for your lovely reply Lana. It's nice to know two people are reading my blog. Sorry for the very late reply but life got serious as my husband lost his bother in road accident. But terrible as it was it makes me cherish each day all the more.
DeleteYou sound like you love cats as much as I do, they bring such joy everyday with their silly little ways and loving head rubs. Although they also make quite a mess!
I'm glad you reached out to me, it seems the crafting world is full of generous souls who just wish to talk or share whatever they can and be honest. In a world where everyone seems to be self absorbed and selfish it's lovely to talk with like minded souls.
Hope the cats and you are well and that the weather is kind to you also. I'll hopefully have another blog post up soon. Warm regards and a hug across the ocean, Debs.
