DK Yarn in five shades
I used Stylecraft special DK in copper, gold, dandelion, camel and khaki
Double crochet: Insert your hook into the stitch or space that you’d like the dc to be made in. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the stitch. You now have 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over again and pull the yarn through the 2 loops on your hook.
Double cluster: Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops repeat 1 more time (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook ch1.
Cluster stitch: *Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops* 3 times (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
Treble crochet : Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops on hook (2 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 remaining loops on hook.
Spiked Treble : Yarn over, insert hook into stitch two rows below, yarn over, pull through stitch (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops on hook (2 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 remaining loops on hook.
Front post treble: Yarn over, insert hook behind the post of the stitch you wish to wrap, yarn over, pull through stitch (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops on hook (2 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 remaining loops on hook.
Granny Square
Round 1. Using your first colour, create slip knot and chain 4 and join with a slip stitch. Chain 2, work 1 more treble (first cluster) and chain 1. Work 7 more double clusters into the centre circle. Insert your hook into your original chain 2, slip stitch and fasten off. 8 double clusters.
Round 2. Join your new colour into any chain space of the previous row. Chain 2 and work 2 more trebles to make a cluster, chain 1 and then another cluster stitch into that same chain space. Continue with clusters around, working into each chain space. Slip stitch into first chain 2 and fasten off. You should have 8 treble clusters.
Round 3. Join your new colour into any chain space between the pairs of clusters of the previous round. Chain 2 and work 2 trebles into the same chain space, chain 1. *Single treble in the next space, triple cluster in the next space, single treble in the next space. 3 trebles, chain 2, 3 trebles (corner). Continue around from * until last corner where you make 3 trebles chain 2 and slip stitch into the first chain 2 and fasten off. You should have 8 single trebles, 4 clusters and 8 sets of trebles for the corners.
Round 4. Join your new colour into any corner space from the previous round. Chain 2, work 2 treble stitches into same chain space. *Work 1 treble into next chain space. Work 1 front post treble around the single treble on the row below. Work 1 treble into next chain space. Repeat* in next spaces. Work 3 trebles, chain 2, 3 trebles into next corner. Repeat * around until last corner where you make 3 trebles chain 2 and slip stitch into the first chain 2 and fasten off. You will have 16 single trebles, 8 front post trebles, 8 sets of trebles for the corners.
Round 5. Join your new colour in any corner space. Chain 2, work 2 more trebles into the same space *chain 1. 3 trebles into next space chain 1 , front post treble around the one from the row below chain 1, 3 trebles in the next space chain 1, front post around the one from the row below chain1 , 3 trebles in the next space. Chain 1. Work 3 trebles, chain 2, 3 trebles into next corner. . Repeat from * until you complete the round with 3 trebles chain 2 and fasten into top of starting chain 2.
Make 13.
Joining. I
joined with a double crochet, wrong sides together to give that ridge look on
the front join. Use your same shade as your final round.
Border
Round 1: Using the same colour as for the final round of the square. Join in the chain 2 corner of the end square. 1 double crochet into every stitch around. 1 double crochet, chain 2, 1 double crochet in each corner. Continue around until you reach the end of your round and finish with 1 double crochet, chain 2 and join to starting stitch.
Round 2: Join your new colour in the chain 2 corner of the end square. 1 double crochet into every stitch around. 1 double crochet, chain 2, 1 double crochet in each corner. Continue around until you reach the end of your round and finish with 1 double crochet, chain 2 and join to your starting stitch.
Round 3: Repeat round 2.
Round 4: Repeat round 2.
Round 5: WORK ON THE WRONG SIDE FOR THIS ROW ONLY. Join your new colour in the chain 2 corner, chain 2 and 2 more trebles, *chain1, skip 1 stitch, 3 trebles, chain 1, 3 trebles (heart). Chain 1 skip 3 stitches working into the fourth another heart. Repeat from * until corner. ** Skip 1 stitch 3 trebles, chain 2, 3 trebles (corner). Repeat from * until next corner. Repeat **. Repeat *, Repeat ** and complete the round with 3 trebles, chain 2 and join to starting chain . 54 pairs of hearts on each long side, 5 on short ends, 4 in corners.
Round 6: Join your new colour in the chain 2 corner, chain 2 and 1 more treble. *Chain 3, spike trebles into the double crochet round, chain 3, double crochet into chain 1 space in the top of the heart. Repeat from *until corner. 2 trebles, chain 2 ,2 trebles. Repeat from* Until corner. Repeat from * and complete the round with 2 trebles, chain 2 and join to top of starting chain. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Round 7. Make a double crochet in the corner space and then *work 2 double crochets into each chain 3 space around. At first corner 1 double crochet, chain 2, 1 double crochet. Repeat from *, work next corner and complete the round with 1 double crochet chain 2 and join to first double crochet. Fasten off and sew in your ends.
